Has anyone used RelayRides before?

I'm starting to plan my trip to California for this years Pebble Beach Week. I'm flying in to Oakland first to visit friends (and because I have a free Southwest flight), and then I'm going to drive 2 hours down to Monterrey.

I don't want a Camry for the week, so I found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! site. I was wondering if any fellow Opponauts had any experience with it and if it was legit.

For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a rental car site that's part of the "rent your stuff/house/womb to strangers on the internet" craze.

Apparently I can rent some guys's BRZ for $320 for the whole week. That should be more fun and cheaper than a fleet grade Sentra or Malibu.

Or, for $100 less, I can get a bright orange Mini Cooper S 'vert with a six speed. Because California.

It's all about the insurance yo! Make sure you're covered under either their policy or your own.

I'm 98% sure my policy would cover me, but that's definitely somethingI should check before I commit to anything

Are you flying into San Francisco? If so, you could always rent an A4 from Silvercar .

No, I chose Oakland instead because my flight was 5000 points less. That seems cool though. If I find a cheaper flight to San Fran I'll consider silver car, thanks!

I'm a little late to the punch... but yes! Coincidentally, I rented both a BRZ and a Mini on RelayRides: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/rental-cars-wi…

I enjoy RelayRides almost as much as DeMuro enjoys CarMax.

haha yeah you're too late, I leave tomorrow! My rental grade Focus will have to do, but I might check out relay rides locally just to spend a day with a different car.

Haha, now that's a Jalop thing to do — renting two cars at the same time. :)

I rented a Focus SE hatchback from Hertz a few weeks ago. I was pretty impressed by the steering feel. It was also great at doing donuts in a muddy field, but don't ask me how I know that. ;)

This is before it started raining:

P.S. ooh, I can't remember now, was it Hertz? Maybe Avis?

I got a pretty good deal through Thrifty, $249 for the week

Ah, excellent...that'll be a ton of fun! I've always wanted to sneak into Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance... maybe next year.
